Sun, May 20th - VA Highlands Community College  Family & Education, Arts & Culture, Music, Church & Ministry 0
Meet Rita Quillen, one of the region's finest poets, who will lead the annual 'Celebration of Regional Poetry.' Her new volume, The Mad Farmer's Wife, is a response to a life lived on a mountain cattle farm in Southwest Virginia and also to a poetic persona created by noted Kentucky poet and essayist Wendell Berry over thirty years ago: the Mad Farmer. In a world increasingly detached from the land that supplies our all our essential resources, Quillen's poetry tries to help us understand the complexity and challenge of living a rural life in today's economy and the dark life-and -death struggles that are a routine part of farm living. She will be joined at this event by other poets from the Appalachian Center for Poets and Writers. Sponsored by Washington County Friends of the Library.~~~~ Cost: Free for Everyone~~~~ Download the complete Spring 2018 Arts Array Program at www.vhcc.edu/ArtsArray .~~ All Arts Array activities are free for the faculty, staff and students of Virginia Highlands Community College.
