  1. A Facility For Living (Mar 22) 25 days. Feb-8th to Mar-22nd

Thu, Mar 22nd - Barter Theatre  Arts & Culture, Music, Health & Fitness 0
“Amusing, entertaining, and life affirming; the Boomers Generation will not go down without a fight!” ~~ A comedy by Katie Forgette ~~ The Golden Girls meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the hilarious and possibly disturbing story of what life may be like in the not-so-distant future. For the residents of Federal Nursing Home #273, a penitentiary that has been converted to a senior center, every day is a monotonous cycle of pills, old Ronald Reagan movies, and mandatory bedtimes, all overseen by the killjoy head nurse who has embraced her inner Nurse Ratched. When a new resident arrives to shake things up, this band of misfits hatch an outrageous plan to break all the rules and in the process rediscover purpose and dignity in the face of a system mightily stacked against them.~~ Director's Notes In this modern age, magazines ads and face cream commercials bombard us with the notion that “age is just a number”, which is all well and good until we reach for our toothbrush and pull a muscle in our shoulder. The inevitability of aging, for those of us who are lucky enough to experience it, will mean witnessing our bodies slowing down. Hearing our bodies make sounds not unlike an old house- creaking, moaning, groaning. We may one day have to accept the assistance of walkers, plastic tubes, shots, and perhaps even a return to diapers. Try as we might, age is a determined lady who will not be stopped.~~ Our play is set in the not too distant future. It explores the human condition and asks us to consider compassion for the oldest among us, and moreover, culpability for our own health as Lady Age takes over our mortal coil. Are we entirely responsible for the effect that time has on our bodies? The way in which our bodies age? Is that extra few pounds we put on over the holidays something we should be held accountable, or even punished for? Will our future well-being depends on exactly how many miles we walked (or didn't walk) each day? Or whether we actually ever stepped foot on that giant treadmill we bought back in 1987? And how about those all-you-can-eat breakfast buffets we enjoyed...~~ Who among us will be strong enough to maneuver though our old age with grace and humor? If laughter is the best medicine, then it seems like we may all need to be surrounded by friends as we sail into our 80s and 90s. Someone to help us remember where we put our teeth. Someone to help us find the grace in simply waking up each day. Someone to help us fasten that knee brace and grin and bear it. True friends will remind us to buckle up for what is sure to a bumpy ride into our twilight years.~~ Susanne Boulle,~~ Director, A Facility for Living~~ Cast & Credits Time: The not too distant future...~~ Setting: SPA Facility #273, somewhere in America~~ COLLABORATORS Director: Susanne Boulle ~~ Set Designer: Hana Lee ~~ Costume Designer: Ashley Campos ~~ Lighting Designer: Camille Davis ~~ Sound Designer: Tony Angelini ~~ Stage Manager: Sara Douglas ~~ CAST Kevin: Sam McCalla ~~ Beatrice “Judy “Hart: Tricia Mathews ~~ Wally Carmichael: Michael Poisson ~~ Nurse Claudia: Hannah Ingram ~~ Mitzi Kramer: Mary Lucy Bivins ~~ Joe Taylor: Eugene Wolf ~~ Stan: Andrew Wissman ~~ Rehearsal Assistant Stage Manager: Victoria L.
