  1. A Facility For Living (Feb 21) 11 days. Feb-8th to Feb-21st

Wed, Feb 21st - Barter Theatre  Arts & Culture, Music 0
“Amusing, entertaining, and life affirming; the Boomers Generation will not go down without a fight!” ~~ A comedy by Katie Forgette ~~ The Golden Girls meets One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in the hilarious and possibly disturbing story of what life may be like in the not-so-distant future. For the residents of Federal Nursing Home #273, a penitentiary that has been converted to a senior center, every day is a monotonous cycle of pills, old Ronald Reagan movies, and mandatory bedtimes, all overseen by the killjoy head nurse who has embraced her inner Nurse Ratched. When a new resident arrives to shake things up, this band of misfits hatch an outrageous plan to break all the rules and in the process rediscover purpose and dignity in the face of a system mightily stacked against them.~~ Photos Videos

  8. Stephen Jett (Feb 25)

Sun, Feb 25th - VA Highlands Community College  Family & Education, Arts & Culture, Music, Church & Ministry 0
Meet Dr. Stephen Jett, retired Professor of Geography from University of California, Davis, who has written a new book, Ancient Ocean Crossings: Reconsidering the Case of Contacts with the Pre-Columbian Americas. It paints a compelling picture of pre-Columbian cultures and Old World civilizations that, contrary to popular belief, were not isolated from one another. Jett suggests that many ancient peoples had both the seafaring capabilities and the motives to cross the oceans, and, in fact, did so repeatedly and with great impact. The book synthesizes ideas from archaeology, geography, linguistics, climatology, oceanology, and history of navigation to make his compelling case. 10. Suzanne Stryk: Notes on the State of Virginia (Mar 01)

Thu, Mar 1st - VA Highlands Community College  Family & Education, Arts & Culture, Music, Church & Ministry 0
For more than 25 years, Suzanne Stryk has recorded her experiences with nature in sketchbooks that are both journals of walks near her Bristol, Virginia, home and scientific documents of the flora and fauna she observes. These pages have served as foundations for hundreds of mixed-media works that blend the natural history of a place with Stryk's own direct experiences with each environment. In her new series, Notes on the State of Virginia, based on Thomas Jefferson's 1781 book detailing Virginia's diverse animal and plant populations, Stryk has created more than two dozen place-based assemblages detailing her own travels through the state and the flora and fauna she observed on her journey.~~~~ Cost: Free for Everyone~~ Download the complete Spring 2018 Arts Array Program at www.vhcc.edu/ArtsArray .~~ All Arts Array activities are free for the faculty, staff and students of Virginia Highlands Community College.
