    The first NASCAR race at the Bristol International Speedway, now BMS, was held on July 30, 1961 with a seating capacity of 18,000. Prior to this race the speedway hosted weekly races. The first driver on the track for practice on July 27, 1961 was Tiny Lund in his Pontiac.
